Interns: Interns (no salary) provide a great opportunity for college and high school students to work directly under veteran teaching staff, in addition to marketing, financial and management internships.

Lead Teachers
Lead Teachers are primarily responsible for the supervision and education of the children registered and assigned to their classroom. This requires that they keep all children within sight and sound at all times, provided a nurturing, caring and safe environment for students. Lead teachers knowledgeably implement the philosophies, regulations and curriculum of Bright Beginnings, the State of Virginia, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Lead Teachers are responsible for implementing the age appropriate curriculum calendars developed for their class. This requires lesson-planning, preparation of materials, providing extension of the planned activities, and supplying alternative activities, songs and finger plays in the event of a change or lack of interest. The Lead Teacher provides a classroom full of choices, which allow all children to grow emotionally, socially, and physically.
Lead Teachers, dependent upon scheduling, meet and greet children and parents, monitor hand washing and bathroom activity (including diapering when necessary), participate in all scheduled events, supervise all children while on the playground, serve snacks and lunches, clean up rooms and monitor napping.
Lead Teachers are advocates for their program, assisting in tours and providing the public with a positive image of the school. Professional confidentiality is respected with regards to all children, parents and staff.
Lead Teachers delegate duties and supervise Assistant Teachers. They model appropriate behaviors and provide answers to questions. They are capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities, are receptive of positive criticism and suggestions and effectively communicate with Bright Beginnings administration.
Lead Teachers attend weekly staff meetings and fill out SOLs and monthly evaluations. Lead Teachers conference twice a year with the parents of the children in their class. They are available to talk to parents daily and write notes home regularly.
Lead Teachers hold a college degree in Early Childhood Education or have at least 6 months experience in a licensed preschool program and are at least 18 years old.

Assistant Teachers
Assistant Teachers aid the Lead Teachers in the daily components of the program. They are willing and capable of following directions for carrying out delegated responsibilities. Assistant Teachers provide a nurturing and caring environment for the children and effectively communicate with all other staff members. Assistant Teachers are participants in planning, implementing and following up on all parts of curriculum as delegated by Lead Teachers and Administrators. Assistant Teachers facilitate the routine of the day by assisting the children in curriculum activities, as well as during hand washing, bathroom needs, and general organization and cleaning of the classroom. Internships
Interns (unpaid) provide a great opportunity for college and high school students to work in an early childhood classroom setting directly under veteran teaching staff at 3 convenient Bright Beginnings locations. In addition, business management experiences in marketing, customer service, communication, financial management for small businesses and school administration internships are also available. Interns are able to gain a wide variety of work experiences and projects designed to develop skills necessary in today’s job market.
Interns are directly supervised by experienced managers at Bright Beginnings and provided continual feedback in a friendly and positive work environment. Interns may opt to participate in more than one internship opportunity. Interns must commit a minimum of 3 hours per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks.
