Hello Sea Turtles and Penguins!

It has once again been a fantastic week here in the toddler program! For our humanities we continued to dance with scarves to a variety of music. The children really enjoy this activity, and are particularly fond of dancing to Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro”. I played it 5 times in a row because they continued to ask for it! We worked on problem solving by focusing on puzzles this week. We concentrated on a particular puzzle each day and worked on it several times throughout the day. This activity not only helped with problem solving but also working as a group to accomplish a goal. For math we continued to review our shapes and patterns, and also counting to 10 in both English and in Spanish. For science we had several water sensory activities including working with boats, funnels, and cups.  It was a great activity to help introduce the different fundamentals of water. You can continue to work on these concepts at home during bath time! We also had a rice and bean sensory.  In the gross motor room, we played “Freeze” where we would have the children dance or move around and then freeze when instructed.  We also played toddler basketball, where we tried to gently toss a ball into a low basket, worked on walking a line, passing the ball, and tried yoga! This week in art, we did a lot of action painting. We made a zip lock sponge painting by dipping a few small sponges in paint and stick both them and the piece of paper inside a zip lock bag and having the children shake it all about. We had another shake and paint activity by dipping several broken crayons in paint and sticking them inside a container and having the children shake it. The combination of paint and crayon gave it a very neat effect! We also made a splatter painting, a roller painting, and worked on our coloring! Our featured books this week were “I Can Help” by David Hyde Costello, “Dancing Feet” by Lindsay Craig and Marc Brown, “The Earth Book” by Todd Parr, “Dinosaur vs. The Potty” by Bob Shea, and “My Heart is Like a Zoo” by Michael Hall. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

We continued our safety theme in the Starfish class by introducing the children to Community Helpers. We also enjoyed playing with our science bottles, puzzles, and shaving cream. For Art, we painted with cotton balls, made community helper badges, and made a circle collage. We continued to count on our fingers, found items in the class that are circular, and compared block shapes. We worked on gross motor skills like skipping and jumping, catching and throwing, and up and down. Music was full of instruments, scarf dancing, and free art with music. We look forward to another busy week next week!

The Seal Class continues to work very hard on potty training skills. They are really doing a great job and have great pride when they stay dry! For Social Studies, we worked a lot on classroom safety and manners. The children shared their thoughts on what being a good helper means, played the sharing/caring game, and practiced rotating between centers. For art, we painted with water colors, used recycled items to make a group project, and made shape necklaces. For Gross Motor, we practiced warming up, played “Row Your Boat,” and had a penguin waddle race. We are really getting settled as a group and look forward to another great week!

We have had another busy week in the Dolphin Room. We continued to work on the letter “Ll” by identifying the letter in all of our names. The children are really enjoying sharing with their friends in group time. We continued to talk about safety and community helpers. Check out our fire trucks displayed in the hall! Thanks to everyone who donated shoes to needy children. We were excited to participate and will continue to pursue opportunities to give back to the community.

What a great week in the Walrus Class This week we focused on our writing skills while Ms Bre got used to the class routine. Everyone is very talented and with a little more practice, nearly perfect! We also enjoyed learning about the Bahamas We made the flag and traditional Bohemian masks. We all love to decorate art projects together. A big thank-you to all my Pre-K students and Ms. Patrice for a warm welcome! I hope to see you all Monday at “Meet the Teacher.”
