School News and Notes:
WATER, WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE! Everywhere you walk into, children are learning about water. The toddlers and 2’s were splashing around in the water. The 3’s were learning about saving our water and using it sparingly. The 4’s were learning about the 3 stages of water- solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (steam). They made a very cool cooking project while learning about water.
Tri-Colored Cup Cakes:
This is a very easy and fun activity to do with your children. You don’t have to stick with red, white, and blue; you can use all different colors. Check out below the small list of things you need to do.
Materials:
1 box white cake mix or your favorite white cake recipe
ingredients called for by your cake-mix or recipe
24 cupcake liners
red gel coloring
blue gel coloring
butter cream frosting
Preparation:
1. Mix the cake batter according to the package directions
2. Divide the batter into three bowls
3. Using the gel paste, color one bowl of batter blue. You will find you only need a small speck of the coloring to get a bright, vibrant color that pops. Add more or less, depending upon the intensity you prefer
4. Color the second bowl with the red coloring
5. Leave the last bowl as is (for the white layer)
6. Place your cupcake liners in your muffin tin
7. Divide the red batter into the cupcake liners. Start by putting a teaspoon of red batter at the bottom of each liner, and then go back and add more if you have batter leftover
8. Repeat step #7 with your white batter
9. Repeat step #7 with your blue batter
10. Bake cupcakes according to package or recipe directions
11. After cupcakes have baked and cool, frost them with your butter cream frosting
Class Notes:
Pelican Class
We welcomed Ms. Courtney into our classroom this week so stop by and say hello! We have been water playing all week splashing with our hands in big containers. We made thin smiles with colorful paints, played with bubbles and tried to catch them while laying on our backs. We Pointed to body parts like our eyes, ears, nose, mouth and loved having our tummies tickled. We all love to look at each other while we roll back and forth to music.
Ms. Sue
Kangaroo Class
This week the Kangaroos are learning about water world. We have talked about colors of fish, where fish live and what a fish eats. We have also played in the water tub. We did an experiment of sink or float, used and sorted seashells by big and small. We painted paper plate fish bowls and painted a water scene. We pretended to go swimming with fish, and fish off a boat. We talked about the different water transportations, and how a fish blows bubbles. We had a splash this week! Have a great weekend!
Ms. Jen
Peacock Class
Hello peacock families and friends,
This week in the peacock class we have fun learning about water, the ocean, and waves! We leaned about sinking or floating too! We did a really neat experiment where we used rocks, paperclips, pencils, and crayons and dropped them in the water. We also made real waves on our classroom floor with blue tape. As always we had lots of fun finger painting with different colors of blue. We also made glittery fish that swim in the ocean. We are continuing working on potty training for some us during the day as well, and it seems to be going very well. As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to stop by and chat! Have a great weekend!

Bunny Class
Hello Bunny families and friends! The Bunnies have had a wonderful week exploring and discovering new things. For math this week we did all sorts of things. We continued working on our counting skills in both English and Spanish. We used Geo-boards to make shapes. We also used sea shells and bears to sort by color and size. Science this week was all about water. We spent a couple days exploring under water animals-we discovered what kind of animals live underwater, what they eat and how they move around. The Bunnies also discovered objects that sink or float. Each bunny go to pick an item in the room and we all guessed if it would sink or float. This would be a fun idea to try at home! For Social Awareness we continued with The Best I can Be book series. This week we read about using manners, listening, showing respect, being fair and cooperating! Lastly in Children’s humanities we’ve been learning our ABC’s in sign language! Have a great weekend!
Ms. Whitney
Rooster Class
This week because so many of our friends were out on vacation the Walrus’ and Roosters were combined. This allowed some of our teachers to take some time off and finish their final exams for classes that have been taking.

Walrus Class (And Roosters!)
This week’s theme was “water world”! We were busy learning about the three states of water (solid, liquid, gas) and conducting experiments with water. We tested objects to see what would sink and what would float. Also tested freezing and thawing water. We made fish bowls out of paper plates, sailboats out of squares and triangles, and textures seahorses using sand paper! The highlight of the Walrus week, our cooking project—we made our own edible aquariums! We used crushed up graham crackers as sand for the bottom, blue jello as water and goldfish crackers as fish! It was fun to make and fun to eat! Have a great weekend and we will see you next week for “Once Upon a Time” where we will work with classic fairy tales.
