So as your children are getting bigger, please think of us when needing to get rid of things. J Do not forget to sign up for Children’s Night Out! It is “Aloha Night” and it will be hosted by Ms. Michelle and Ms. Jessica on Friday, July 23rd.

Class Notes

Penguin

In class this week, we did lots of reviewing with our colors, counting, shapes, using our words, animals and sorting by color. We had another great Sprinkler Day! Our hit books this week were, Ten in the Meadow, which was about a little bear playing hide and seek with nine of his little animal friends. Everyone also really enjoyed, Peek-A-Zoo, which on each page had a different zoo animal covering their face for you to guess who it was!

For arts and crafts, we finger painted, made elephant ears, which also looks like dog ears! We also made clown hats, ink blot painting, free art, and made a lion’s face by using our hand prints! The children had fun playing in centers this week. Delaney loves to dress up in the fancy hats and Mr. Andrew likes to play “Mr. Fix it” in the workshop. As you can see, we always have a great time in class! Enjoy your weekend!

 Sea Turtle

Hello again! It was wonderful to be back with the Sea Turtles after a week absence! We’ve had a lot of fun this week. This week’s theme was the circus and we focused several activities around that concept. On Monday we decorated clown hats. Tuesday we finger painted elephant ears and put them on a headband. The kids had a lot of fun wearing them around the classroom pretending to be elephants! Friday we used our hands to paint a lion and practiced roaring like one. We also worked on our balancing by pretending to walk on a tight rope. We continued reviewing our colors and shapes at circle time and by reading a color and shapes book, and “A Color of His Own” by Leo Lionni. This week we also talked about our different body parts. We sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “Head, and Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”. Other books we read include “Is Your Mamma a Llama”, “How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends?”, and “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, all of which the children really enjoyed! In the Gross Motor room we put ocean sounds on the CD player and pretended to go to the beach. We played with a beach ball, swam in the pool, and pretended to sail in boat. Other art projects included ink blot painting, painting with marbles, and finger painting. We all enjoyed Friday’s cooking project, especially eating it at snack time! Water day was a hit again, the kids have a blast running around in their suits, and playing around the sprinkler! Please continue to sun screen them before school, as it has been very sunny recently and we don’t want them to get burnt as we play outside in the morning. Thanks for another great week. I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday!

Ms. Ashley

Dolphin

This week in the Dolphin Class we learned about the circus. For math, we reviewed numbers 1-10, graphed our favorite circus animals, and practiced addition and subtraction. We were able to go on a safari hunt on the nature trail, and it was a blast! In social studies, we learned about some of the circus animals like, elephants, lions, seals, and monkeys. We answered the question, “If I could in the in circus, I would be…” This turned out to be a great discussion. Circus art was so much fun because were made elephants, seals, clown faces, and a circus train!

We would like to welcome Maddox and Owen to the Dolphin Class!

Reminders:

Sprinkler Day is every Wednesday

Bike Day is every Friday

Show and Tell is every Friday and there is always a theme!

Please sign up for CNO July 23rd, Aloha from Hawaii!

Walrus

The Walrus group did a fantastic job this week and everyone had great participation! The children have a great understanding of addition and subtraction problems and the signs that belong in each one. They helped me write a few and wrote their own in their journals with the help of our dominos! We reviewed the beginning, middle, and end of a story and answered some questions while reading some of our books. We went over our coins names and amounts. The children are aware when there is five pennies that it equals a nickel, and if we have ten pennies, that equals a dime and so on…

We had a wonderful discussion about why it is important not to interrupt people while others are speaking. We talked about how it makes us feel when others interrupt us and how the classroom can get loud when everyone is trying to talk at once.

I want to thank Ms. Cheri and Ms. Emily for doing a fantastic job last week while I was on vacation! I reviewed with the children and they learned so much about Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington!  Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

It was another fantastic and cool week here at Bright Beginnings. It was all about furry animals this week. The children had a great time learning fun facts and creating some furry friends during their art time! Please check them out throughout the hallway! The classrooms filled up the school with their yummy cooking projects on Thursday. We had rice crispy treats, sugar cookies, fruit mountains, and days at the beach (vanilla yogurt, crushed up vanilla wafers and a few sprinkles for fish!) Thank you to everyone for all of the support with our Bike and Sprinkler Days! We hope everyone has a great and safe long weekend! We will see everyone on Tuesday!

Sea Turtle

The Sea Turtles have once again had a fantastic week! We continued talking about animals and on Monday focused on the fuzzy ones. We read “Curious George at the Zoo”, a touch and feel book, that allowed the children to experience what different animals feel like. They also created fuzzy bunnies as their arts and crafts project that day. We also read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Eric Carle which helped the children differentiate different types of animals as well as colors. We reviewed our letters with the help of “Max’s A,B,C’s” by Rosemary Wells, and decorated the first letters in our names with stickers, which helps to build finger dexterity as they peel and place the stickers on the paper. Some of the Sea Turtles art will be displayed on the front art board throughout July and this week you can see the 4th of July fireworks they made, inspired by the upcoming holiday! Other arts and crafts projects included finger painting and painting paper plates to make masks. Our cooking project on Thursday was sugar cookies. The children had a lot of fun making them, and even more fun eating them!  In the gross motor room we sat in a circle and practiced rolling a ball to one another, and we pretended to swim in the ball pit. In the family living room we pretended to build toys at the workshop with our tools, and simulated cooking various foods at our play kitchen. Thanks again everyone for another great week! I am excited to see everyone again on Tuesday!

Ms. Ashley

Penguin

Hello and welcome back! In class this week we talked about the color green. We made a green frog puppet, made dots with green paint, free colored, and made sponge prints of fireworks for the front Creativity Happens board! We had a cooking project and we made sugar cookies! The children are still reviewing their letters, shapes, words, sorting by color, and body parts. We had a lot of fun in the gross motor room making music, and rowing in our boat while singing, “row, row, row, your boat!” Everyone loves that boat! The Penguins also had a lot of fun on the playground! It was a much cooler week, so we enjoyed looking at the trees, birds, and the sky. Everyone in class had fallen in love with the toy push cars and truck in our family living room. They all go up and down the floor pushing and making the car sounds.  We had a wonderful week, enjoy your three day weekend, and happy 4th!

Ms. Danielle

Starfish

The Starfish and I have haa fun filled week all about animals. We learned all bunnies, zebra’s, loins and frogs. For math we counted how many pom pom’s we needed to cover out fuzzy bunnies, and counted the stripes on our zebra’s. For art this week we made fuzzy bunnies, striped zebra’s, loin masks, and frogs. We talked about where the animals live and what they eat. We also roared like loins, and hopped like frogs. Water day was so much fun. Bike was a blast. The starfish’s favorite two favorite days. For cooking project this week we made rice crispy treats, yummy.  We had a birthday party for Matthew. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATTHEW!  Have a safe and fun Fourth of July, see you on Tuesday.

Ms. Jennifer

Dolphin

This week, the Dolphin Class would like to welcome you to the jungle! We have been learning all about the animals. We talked about the zebra, frogs, monkeys, and panda bears! We had a great time learning interesting facts about these animals! This week in art, we have been working on our copying skills. I made an animal as an example and we put our together following the example. Please check the hallway for our art projects! In math, we talked about addition, subtraction, more, and less, and played shape and number bingo! Thank you to everyone for helping with the treasure box, baby wipes, and freeze pops. We greatly appreciate all of your donations. We would like to welcome Emma, Kelan, Ava, and Gabrielle to the class! Have a great holiday weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Ms. Missy & Ms. Michelle

Walrus

We had a wonderful week in the Walrus Class! The students did a great job during our charades game and making their animal sounds! I was so impressed that everyone knew their birthday months and dates! A day at the beach was our cooking project. We had vanilla yogurt as our ocean, crushed up vanilla wafers for our sand, and colored sprinkles for our school of fish! The students continued to practice their scissor and cutting skills by cutting strips of paper to make the stripes on our zebras! They look so good; please check them out in the hallway! It was very important for us to review the three parts of a story (beginning, middle, and end) because we wrote our own story later in the week about Freddie the Frog! This is our story…

One Sunday morning, Freddie woke up late. Freddie was going to Bunny’s house. Freddie and Bunny Logan went to find a bear cave. When they got to the bear cave, they dug for a mouse! Freddie found a frog and poured water in his face and he fell in to the pond.  Freddie found a big black bear. Freddie started to collect food for the winter.  Freddie came home to chop up grapes for the panda bear. Freddie made food for breakfast. Freddie invited his friends over for a party!

                   THE END

It was a cooler week this week, which was perfect for Bike Day but a little on the chilly side for Sprinkler Day. All of it was great fun and we hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! See everyone on Tuesday!

Speech Weekly

Toddlers and young 2’s

We began by reading several noisy stories to focus on correctly producing  /p/, /b/, /m/, /s/, /z/, /t/, /k/, and /g/.  We then read Becca Bunny and worked on time concepts such as early/late, morning/afternoon, and day/night.  We read “Buddy Bear Goes on Vacation” and described all the places Buddy Bear went such as the desert, ocean, jungle, beach, forest, etc. We worked on sign language throughout the entire session.

Older 2’s

We also read several noisy stories and worked on simple categories.  We put several different pictures in category pockets of clothing, food, animals, and transportation.  We then read “Buddy Bear Goes on Vacation” and described places such as the forest, jungle, beach, desert, ocean, etc.  We finished the session with our bubble machine.

3’s and 4’s

In some classrooms we continued working on phonemic awareness.  More shaving cream was placed on the table to blend sounds to make words.  We used the tabletop to make simple words and integrated several letters to make new words. In other classrooms we answered questions from our oral language box.  Each child had to pick a card out of the box and answer several different questions.  We focused on speaking clearly while standing up in front of our friends and worked primarily on /k/, /g/, /th/, /sh/, and /s/ sounds in words and sentences.

Have a great weekend.

Sea Turtle

The Sea Turtle’s have had another great week! We continued talking about different types of animals by reading books such as, “Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?” and “Mixed Up Chameleon” both by Eric Carle and both of which help teach something else we’ve been discussing in class…our colors! The color of the week was green and we utilized it by having each child stamp green paint onto paper with leaves, and by painting pictures of turtles with green paint. We’ve also been going over different shapes and stamped them onto paper with potato stamps that I made. Other arts and crafts projects included painting with marbles (by sticking construction paper into a canister with paint covered marbles), and having each child shake it around, coloring different types of animals, and painting with pudding.

Sprinkler day was a hit again this week. Even if a child didn’t get in the water, they really enjoyed watching the other children. Please continue to dress them in their swimwear every Wednesday, and please remember to apply sunscreen before school every morning!

Thanks for another great week Sea Turtles! I look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Miss Ashley

In class this week we talked about the color yellow, circles, and triangles. For art, we painted with marbles, made ball prints, and a sun out of a circle and triangles. We also made sure to review all of our letters. The children had fun pretending to bake, and watching the birds. We read some new books and learned new songs. The children also sorted different objects by color, which helped us review our colors this week. We have been working on using our words, and pointing out our body parts. Everyone had a great time pretending to play baseball, and swimming in the ball pit in the gross motor room! The children had a chance to take a trip to grandma’s house, and baked some cookies in the family living room. We had a really fun week and everyone is doing a great job in class! See you next week!

This week was all about sports. Monday we went to Starfish lanes and bowled. The children loved bowling, and it helped us practice our hand and eye coordination. For art we colored our own bowling balls. For math we counted the pins. We also practiced taking turns and cheering for our friends. The next sport we played was basketball, which helped us practice our gross motor skills. We talked about our favorite sports, and then made a chart. We made ball prints with paint. Water Day was fabulous, and the children were all smiles. We played soccer; it was a big hit. We colored footballs, and talked about what you need to wear when you play. Friday was bike day; the children love to show me there skills and their bikes. We reviewed days of the days of the week, colors, shapes, letters, and animals.

The children rolled the ball in paint and then proceeded to create a picture using this. We also made a brown bear out of construction paper. The children made footballs out of construction paper. The last thing we did was make a picture that displayed the different sports we have gone over.

During our gross motor time, we played follow the leader and Simon says. The children also danced to their favorite songs. The Seals were able to shake some of their wiggles out by doing exercise. We also pretended we were playing some of our favorite sports.

The Walrus group is really moving along. We had a fantastic week, and enjoyed week 2 of Sprinkler and Bike Day! The students have been writing so much in their journals and we are reviewing our lower case letters again by matching them up with their capital letter. We are also making numbers! The students used the magnetic numbers and made whatever number I asked them to make. They did a fantastic job with both of these activities. Quin brought in these fantastic animal cards that have great facts on the back and we went over two of them each day! We also practiced using descriptive words by describing our fathers. We made sure to water the garden and decorate the front of the school with chalk! The children love drawing people and we practiced adding more details to the faces and bodies! We added eye lashes, eyebrows, ears, shoes, and fingers! The pictures look great; please check them out in the hallway! Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Monday!
