 Penguin & Sea Turtle

We’ve had a really busy week in the Penguin class, and lots of fun! We are still working with our toddler’s on using nice hands with each other. They are at that age where rough hands is the only way to express themselves so it will take some time but we will stay consistent. For art this week, we did stamp art, brush painting, finger painting, and free coloring. We played in the water table with our sea shells, shook our rice bottles, and played “smell and guess”.  The group also talked about their body parts and we made up some fun songs to help them remember the different parts. Anytime our toddlers are singing or dancing, they are having a ball! Some new books were given to us this week including, “We All Fall Down”, “Look Who’s Talking on the Farm”, and “The Cow Loves Cookies”. It is really cute to see all the children sitting down “reading” their books. We also made some cool block towers. Connor loves the blocks and he can stack up to six blocks before they fall down. Delaney and Claire have been having a ball in dress up and with the  baby dolls. Our new kitchen is a favorite for Lili, Koen, and Emmett. They run to it each time we are in the Sea Turtle room. Thank you to all of my Penguin parents!

Starfish Class

Hello from the Starfish class! This week for math, we all counted our Fruit Loops during morning snack. We sorted them by color and counted how many of each color we had and the children loved it. Our animals have been used in math center this week as well as we sorted them into groups depending on which type of animal they were. The best part of our week was doing the apple strudel cooking project. The kids loved helping to mix the apples, cinnamon, and sugar together. They also had the opportunity to explore the apples through touch, smell, sight, and taste. Pajama day was also a blast. The kids loved seeing their friends in their pajamas. We held a pajama dance party which was great fun and allowed us to really get moving which was nice because it was too rainy to go outside.

Walrus Class

This week in the Walrus class we focused on learning our bodies.  For Social Studies we learned about our bones, muscles, heart, and lungs.  Math this week we have been working really hard at addition and the number 3.  We wrote the number 3 and the word three in our journals and on our worksheet.  The letter of the week was “X” we did a letter worksheet.  We also read a lot of books about our body to help us learn.  We had a really good week and I am very proud of all of them.  Hope you have a great weekend!

School Notes and News

Bright Beginnings always appreciates all of the donations that we receive. If anyone is thinking about donating some clothes, we are in need of boys and girls bottoms. We have a nice supply of shirts but not enough shorts, skirts, pants, etc…  Also, extra shoes are always a nice thing to have around as well. So as your children are getting bigger, please think of us when needing to get rid of things. J Do not forget to sign up for Children’s Night Out! It is “Aloha Night” and it will be hosted by Ms. Michelle and Ms. Jessica on Friday, July 23rd.

Class Notes

Penguin

In class this week, we did lots of reviewing with our colors, counting, shapes, using our words, animals and sorting by color. We had another great Sprinkler Day! Our hit books this week were, Ten in the Meadow, which was about a little bear playing hide and seek with nine of his little animal friends. Everyone also really enjoyed, Peek-A-Zoo, which on each page had a different zoo animal covering their face for you to guess who it was!

For arts and crafts, we finger painted, made elephant ears, which also looks like dog ears! We also made clown hats, ink blot painting, free art, and made a lion’s face by using our hand prints! The children had fun playing in centers this week. Delaney loves to dress up in the fancy hats and Mr. Andrew likes to play “Mr. Fix it” in the workshop. As you can see, we always have a great time in class! Enjoy your weekend!

 Sea Turtle

Hello again! It was wonderful to be back with the Sea Turtles after a week absence! We’ve had a lot of fun this week. This week’s theme was the circus and we focused several activities around that concept. On Monday we decorated clown hats. Tuesday we finger painted elephant ears and put them on a headband. The kids had a lot of fun wearing them around the classroom pretending to be elephants! Friday we used our hands to paint a lion and practiced roaring like one. We also worked on our balancing by pretending to walk on a tight rope. We continued reviewing our colors and shapes at circle time and by reading a color and shapes book, and “A Color of His Own” by Leo Lionni. This week we also talked about our different body parts. We sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “Head, and Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”. Other books we read include “Is Your Mamma a Llama”, “How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends?”, and “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, all of which the children really enjoyed! In the Gross Motor room we put ocean sounds on the CD player and pretended to go to the beach. We played with a beach ball, swam in the pool, and pretended to sail in boat. Other art projects included ink blot painting, painting with marbles, and finger painting. We all enjoyed Friday’s cooking project, especially eating it at snack time! Water day was a hit again, the kids have a blast running around in their suits, and playing around the sprinkler! Please continue to sun screen them before school, as it has been very sunny recently and we don’t want them to get burnt as we play outside in the morning. Thanks for another great week. I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday!

Dolphin

This week in the Dolphin Class we learned about the circus. For math, we reviewed numbers 1-10, graphed our favorite circus animals, and practiced addition and subtraction. We were able to go on a safari hunt on the nature trail, and it was a blast! In social studies, we learned about some of the circus animals like, elephants, lions, seals, and monkeys. We answered the question, “If I could in the in circus, I would be…” This turned out to be a great discussion. Circus art was so much fun because were made elephants, seals, clown faces, and a circus train!

We would like to welcome Maddox and Owen to the Dolphin Class!

Reminders:

Sprinkler Day is every Wednesday

Bike Day is every Friday

Show and Tell is every Friday and there is always a theme!

Walrus

The Walrus group did a fantastic job this week and everyone had great participation! The children have a great understanding of addition and subtraction problems and the signs that belong in each one. They helped me write a few and wrote their own in their journals with the help of our dominos! We reviewed the beginning, middle, and end of a story and answered some questions while reading some of our books. We went over our coins names and amounts. The children are aware when there is five pennies that it equals a nickel, and if we have ten pennies, that equals a dime and so on…

We had a wonderful discussion about why it is important not to interrupt people while others are speaking. We talked about how it makes us feel when others interrupt us and how the classroom can get loud when everyone is trying to talk at once.

I want to thank Ms. Cheri and Ms. Emily for doing a fantastic job last week while I was on vacation! I reviewed with the children and they learned so much about Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington!  Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!
